YouTube Shorts has integrated with Google’s Veo 2, a cutting-edge video generation model, empowering content creators to seamlessly incorporate AI-generated video clips into their posts. This integration follows the introduction of Dream Screen, which allowed creators to generate AI-powered backgrounds for Shorts using text prompts.
Veo 2 elevates the AI capabilities by enabling creators to produce standalone video segments that can be added to their Shorts. YouTube’s Director of Product, Dina Berrada, emphasizes the enhanced speed and improved realism of Veo 2, stating that it “understands real-world physics and human movement better, making its output more detailed and realistic.” This expanded functionality allows creators to include specific styles, lenses, and cinematic effects, making Dream Screen a versatile tool for self-expression.
To ensure transparency and address concerns about synthetic content, YouTube will employ DeepMind’s SynthID tool to watermark and identify AI-generated videos. These videos will be distinctly marked as being created with AI.
Creators can access Veo 2 in YouTube Shorts by selecting “Green Screen” in the Shorts camera and then navigating to “Dream Screen.” By inputting a text prompt, they can effortlessly generate video content.
This feature is currently available to creators in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, with plans for wider accessibility in the future.
