“Waymo’s Expansion Plans: Autonomous Vehicles Reach Ten New Cities in 2025”

“In a bold move to widen its frontiers, Waymo has revealed plans to begin testing autonomous vehicles in 10 additional cities, among them Las Vegas and San Diego, as reported by The Verge. Notwithstanding, the company’s foray into these novel territories isn’t tantamount to launching commercial operations or deploying their self-driving units.

The announcement comes ahead of Tesla’s 2024 fourth-quarter earnings call, where it is expected that the company will provide updates regarding self-driving cars and robotaxi endeavors.

Currently, Waymo operates commercial robotaxi services within three cities, namely, Phoenix, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. The company has projected an expansion into Austin, Atlanta, and Miami within the year.

While it is still uncertain if Waymo will introduce robotaxi services in the testing cities this year, the mode of operation, often, sees the company deploying a contained fleet for manual driving tests, aimed at assessing the adaptability of their system in various urban and driving conditions.

Recall that Waymo, a subsidiary of Alphabet, carried out tests in Michigan and upstate New York in 2024, to expose its technology to severe winter conditions.”
