The impending U.S. prohibition of TikTok could face an unexpected delay. The looming deadline coincides with the Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Day holiday weekend. President-elect Donald Trump’s upcoming administration is reportedly probing methods to extend the deadline, as per Bloomberg.
The ban, originally slated to begin January 19th, is viewed by Biden’s officials as a challenge for the forthcoming Trump administration. There are currently no intentions by the incumbent administration to get involved prior to the deadline. According to one official who spoke to Bloomberg, users can rest assured, expecting the social network to stay functional past Sunday.
The proposed measures to keep TikTok operative were confirmed by Michael Waltz, Trump’s soon-to-be national security advisor, on Fox News’ Fox and Friends. Moreover, Trump is reportedly considering the use of his executive powers post-inauguration to prolong negotiation time for a sale or find another workaround, as reported by The Washington Post.
Interestingly, Trump, who once advocated for the ban during his first tenure, faced a drastic political shift in his recent campaign, vowing to prevent the app from going dark if re-elected. In a further effort, Trump has petitioned the Supreme Court, currently deciding on the ban, to halt the legislation.
