Leading caller ID application, Truecaller, significantly enhances the user experience for iPhone users with the introduction of real-time caller ID functionality, already a popular feature for Android users.
Apple’s addition of Live Caller ID Lookup in its latest iOS 18 made it possible for Truecaller to give iPhone users access to real-time caller data. This addition follows the company’s major structural changes, with co-founders Alan Mamedi and Nami Zarringhalam stepping away from everyday operations in late 2024.
iPhone comprises a significant portion of Truecaller’s revenue, making iPhone users a key market. Despite only having about 750,000 subscribers out of their 2.6 million on iOS, iPhone users generate 40% of the app’s revenue. This is supported by the fact that conversion rates to premium tier and revenue per iPhone user are five times and 80% higher respectively compared to Android users.
The framework for the real-time caller ID is underpinned by a unique server architecture Truecaller developed. It created a separate, encrypted database for iOS to complement their existing Android database. To keep data consistent between the databases, the company developed a specific syncing process. Though the process requires time-consuming encryption, typically response rate delays, if any, do not exceed a few hours.
Truecaller has a range of subscription plans for its premium tier on iOS starting from $9.99/month per user, $74.99 annually, extending to their top-end Gold subscription at $249 a year.
