Threads Introduces Innovative Post Scheduler, ‘Markup’ Feature and More

As Meta woos TikTok stars to Instagram and Facebook with financial incentives, its rival Instagram Threads is furbishing tools to upgrade user experience primarily for creators and businesses. Instagram boss, Adam Mosseri declared on Thursday that Threads will be supplemented with new features including a post scheduler and the extended metrics view within Insights.

Mosseri’s social media post confirmed the introduction of scheduling posts on Threads, and the ability to measure an individual post’s performance within Insights dashboard. Threads users can now track trends involving views, followers count, geographic demographics, various interactions, and more, within a set timeframe.

Furthermore, Threads is introducing a new functionality enabling users to customize or ‘markup’ a post being reshared for a more personal touch. Mosseri refrained from providing further details, but speculations by tech follower Chris Messina indicate an addition of icon for this feature alongside existing options for inserting photos, GIFs, voice recordings, hashtags, and more.

Upon selecting the squiggly icon, users are directed to a collection of tools such as a highlighter or an arrow, facilitating direct modifications on a Thread post. This capability has been recently demonstrated by Lindsey Gamble via a post on Threads.

This new addition doesn’t quite fit Threads’ usual gamut of features as users tend to share web-clipped contents like news articles with highlights or underlines added to a screenshot. There’s minimal user demand for a tool to directly modify Threads posts.

Despite this, the feature sets Threads apart from social network competitors like X, Bluesky, and Mastodon, which could be the underlying intention.
