Following the disastrous wildfires in Los Angeles, some of the world’s leading tech companies have stepped up, pledging millions to aid in the recovery efforts. Tech behemoths including YouTube/Google, Meta, Snap, Amazon, Netflix, and Sony have all contributed generously.
Aid from YouTube and Google Totaled $15M
YouTube and Google pledged $15 million to organizations providing immediate relief, such as Emergency Network Los Angeles and American Red Cross. They’ve also offered their LA-based YouTube production facilities to creators and artists affected by the fires when safe.
Meta’s Contribution: $2M in Cash and Ad Credits
Meta has pledged a total of $2 million, both in cash and advertising credits for relief activities. Moreover, they activated Facebook’s Safety Check feature helping wildfire victims connect with family.
Snap’s $5M Relief Fund
Snap has donated $5 million towards immediate relief as well as providing meals to evacuees and first responders along with free space for relief operations.
Amazon’s Generosity Reaches $10M
Amazon has contributed $10 million to several organizations, including the American Red Cross of Southern California and FireAid. They’ve also donated over 145,000 essential items to local organizations assisting in the wildfire response.
Netflix’s $10M Contribution and Employee Support
Netflix has donated $10M to organizations such as the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation and Entertainment Community Fund. The company is also assisting employees affected by the disaster.
Sony’s Donation of $5M
Sony has also pledged a sum of $5 million towards supporting emergency relief operations in LA. The funds would be directed to support first responders, community relief, and rebuilding efforts.
In addition to these tech giants, entertainment companies like Warner Bros. Discovery and Disney have also made significant contributions towards the relief activities.
