Tata Electronics solidifies its presence in the region by acquiring a commanding 60% stake in Apple’s consortium member, Pegatron’s Indian operation. This significant move escalates the firm’s iPhone production capabilities in the country.
Pegatron, headquartered in Taiwan, manages an iPhone manufacturing plant near Chennai, located in the southern territory of Tamil Nadu, India. This strategic partnership unfolds less than a year following Tata Electronics’ procurement of Indian smartphone assembly enterprise, Wistron.
While no financial insights of the agreement were revealed, Tata confirmed that this acquisition aligns with its blueprints for a large-scale manufacturing growth within India.
According to Randhir Thakur, CEO & MD of Tata Electronics, the company welcomes the dawn of AI, digital and technical manufacturing enhancements as this venture evolves. “We anticipate escalating operations in India with the advent of these new facilities”, Thakur declared.
Tata Electronics, a key player in iPhone assembly in India since last year, is rapidly becoming a crucial partner for Apple in Asia. This comes as Apple strategizes to decentralize its manufacturing base from China.
