Snap, the software giant, has embarked on a new path of incentivizing AR developers with lucrative rewards, and concurrently introducing a student-friendly pricing structure for its AR-enabled glasses – Spectacles.
Snap is organizing a “Challenge Tags” program: a contest that encourages developers to create unique and engaging Lenses, with the first battle cry being humor. The deadline for entries is the end of January, with the victor bagging a grand prize of $2500. Runner-ups won’t be left in despair with prizes ranging from $1500 and $1000, with twenty impressive submissions recognized at $250 each.
To enter, developers follow a simplified process: sign up for the contest, create a Lens on Snap’s Lens Studio, and apply the Challenge Tag during publishing for eligibility. Judging criteria are based on originality, technical prowess, and theme relevance. This open-to-all contest has a worldwide reach, courtesy of Snap’s collaboration with the AR marketing avenue, Lenslist.
Parallel to this, Snap announced softer Spectacles pricing aimed at educationists: a sweet deal of $49.50 or €55 a month for students, teachers, and educational institution staff alike. This initiative is accessible globally in all countries selling Spectacles.
This step cements Snap’s position within the sector as a pioneer, signifying its sustained commitment to nurturing the growth and development of AR.
