Samsung recently revealed the incorporation of AI capabilities in its SmartThings smart home platform. This evolution is geared towards transforming daily routines with ambient sensing technology and generative AI.
SmartThings plans to use leading-edge sensor technology like millimeter-wave (mmWave) and sound sensor devices to understand and cater to daily activities. For example, it can detect a user’s physical activities and provide support, or it may trigger the robotic vacuum to clean fallen hair strands while the user is blow-drying her hair.
SmartThings’ generative AI technology will provide a more thorough understanding of a user’s home environment for enhanced personalization. Commenting on its prospective performance, users can photograph various objects, e.g., furniture. The SmartThings Map View technology can then offer more intuitive interactions, like adjusting lights or temperature based on a user’s proximity to certain areas.
Samsung reassures consumers that all data will remain localized to the user’s network, with no storage or access granted to third parties without consent. The company predicts the rolling out of these updates during 2025 and 2026.
