Meteomatics Gears Up for U.S. Rollout: Enhancing Weather Prediction for Enterprises

After recognizing a significant gap in weather forecasting from a user perspective, Martin Fengler, a PH.D. holder in mathematics, decided to establish Meteomatics in 2012. The company, headquartered in St. Gallen, Switzerland, blends data from over 110 sources with its proprietary weather drones’ information. This fusion allows Meteomatics to refresh its weather forecasts hourly with a precision level, coupled with its API, to a square kilometer.

Meteomatics’ primary offering is integrating this massive data into a single, manageable format for its clients. Fengler points out the simplicity of this process can be deceptive due to the highly specialized data formats within the industry. However, their efforts have been transformative, with Fengler comparing their API to “bringing the light to the blind.”

Fengler’s client-centric approach distinguishes Meteomatics from other weather companies. The focus is on addressing the needs of enterprises rather than primarily catering to the media industry. Today, the company services over 600 clients, including Tesla and CVS Health, and it continually discovers new enterprise use-cases for weather data.

As climate changes intensify, businesses are increasingly in need of Meteomatics’ services. The U.S. alone incurs an annual cost of $150 billion due to climate disasters, with a percent burdened by enterprises.

Recently, Meteomatics secured a $22 million Series C funding led by Armira Growth. They intend to utilize the fund for U.S. expansion by recruiting dedicated sales and marketing personnel. A portion of the fund is also slated for continuing tech enhancement, aiming to provide precision weather on a global scale.
