Meta Puts an End to its Primary Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Programs

In the latest update from Axios, Meta has chosen to suspend its most prominent DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) efforts. This decision, effective immediately, will impact initiatives aimed at establishing a diverse workforce, offering relevant training, and sourcing diverse suppliers. The cancellation extends to the DEI department itself.

Meta’s justification for this drastic shift comes against the backdrop of the fast-evolving legal and policy environment surrounding DEI efforts in the U.S. Nevertheless, Meta isn’t sailing these waters alone. Tech giants like Microsoft and Zoom have been scaling back on their DEI programs. Legal disputes have been growing around initiatives primarily aimed at Black and Latino communities.

Parallel to these changes, Meta has also declared to limit its fact-checking operations on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. Social media users seem incensed by such move. Since CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s announcement, Google has seen a noticeable surge in users looking up how to delete their Meta accounts.
