May Mobility, a technology startup, has launched its first fully driverless commercial ride-hailing service in Peachtree Corners, Georgia. This marks a significant milestone for the company, which has been gradually introducing its autonomous vehicles to different cities.
May Mobility’s service operates on Technology Parkway, a designated autonomous vehicle test track in Peachtree Corners. The company has removed human safety operators from its vehicles, which are now fully autonomous.
The service zone includes eight pre-set stops at locations such as hotels, retail stores, and City Hall. May Mobility’s vehicles are powered by Toyota Sienna Autono-Maas and can accommodate up to five passengers.
Riders can book trips through the May Mobility app, which is powered by Via, a transit tech company. The service operates Monday through Friday from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM.
This deployment in Peachtree Corners is another step in May Mobility’s strategy of gradually introducing its technology. The company has previously launched driverless services in Sun City, Arizona, and Ann Arbor, Michigan.
May Mobility’s service is particularly notable as it operates in a tech-centric area of Atlanta. Technology Parkway is a 5G-enabled test track equipped with cellular vehicle-to-everything technology, providing low latency and high-bandwidth connectivity for remote assistance.
As the company continues to expand its service, May Mobility plans to slowly extend its reach towards the city’s town center. The company is also exploring the cost of shared rides and the number of rides it has provided to date.
