From January 31, Lucid Gravity SUV users will have the privilege of accessing Tesla’s superior Supercharging network. This is a crucial development as Lucid’s second vehicle model, the Gravity, is uniquely designed to be compatible with Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) plugs.
This development precedes Lucid Air owners gaining access through adapters to the Supercharging network in the second quarter. Several prominent automakers in the likes of Ford, General Motors, Hyundai, Rivian, and Mercedes-Benz illustrated similar plans for 2023, aiming to design EV models that align with Tesla’s charging standard.
While waiting for this future update, adapters are being provided to the vehicle owners with pre-existing Combined Charging Standard (CCS) ports, giving them the flexibility to charge at any location. The slower rollout to non-Tesla vehicles can be attributed to the need for updating the vehicle software as well as Tesla’s charging stations.
Lucid plans to offer adapters to Gravity owners for charging stations equipped with CCS plugs, pushing for seamless accessibility. The luxury EV startup has even integrated a high-performance 926V powertrain, aiming to enable the Gravity to charge at speeds as high as 400 kW on 1000V charging equipment.
Emad Dlala, Lucid’s VP of powertrain, confirmed that the powertrain’s introduction is accompanied by an advanced cooling system possessing exceptional thermal capacity.
