“JetBrains Unveils Junie: A Cutting-Edge AI Coding Assistant for Their IDEs”

JetBrains, the brains behind renowned coding tools such as the IntelliJ IDE for Java and Kotlin, introduced Junie to the world on Thursday. Junie is an advanced AI coding agent capable of understanding and executing routine development tasks. Its design allows it to grasp the context of existing projects and add new features.

Junie has proven its mettle on the esteemed SWE-Bench Verified benchmark, successfully solving 53.6% of 500 commonplace developer duties in a single go. Even though this is not the leading score, JetBrains describes it as ‘promising’.

A unique advantage of Junie is its seamless integration with the JetBrains IDE. JetBrains reassures users that, in delegating tasks to Junie, the human is always at the helm of control. Junie doesn’t only raise the speed of development – it sets a new standard for code quality. JetBrains further elaborates that Junie has the ability to “generate code, run inspections, write tests, and verify their pass status.”

However, technology enthusiasts may have to wait a while before they can test Junie’s capabilities. The service is currently only accessible via an early-access program with a waitlist. Furthermore, it only operates on Linux and Mac, and within the IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate and PyCharm Professional IDEs, although a WebStorm roll-out appears imminent.
