Instagram Reels Amplifies Features Amid U.S. TikTok Ban

Instagram’s video function, Reels, introduces fresh features in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s ratification of America’s TikTok ban, due on January 19. The update is set to facilitate users in unearthing content liked by friends and followers, promoting discussions about Reel materials.

Initially, the features will roll out in the U.S. Instagram’s parent company, Meta, seeks to secure a share of U.S.-based TikTok users, predominantly content creators depending on social media for revenue. While a prominent group of TikTokers have switched to China’s RedNote app, deriving income for creators may be complex on a platform mainly utilized by Chinese audiences and less by U.S businesses and brands.

To captivate TikTok’s user base, Meta will integrate a feature on the Reels tab’s top-right corner. This will simplify tracking content liked or interacted with by friends and followers. A “reply bar,” a novel addition, placed under a reel, will enable easy responses to content appreciated by friends.

These features are currently in the process of being launched, says Meta.
