Google Hikes Workspace Pricing But Throws in AI Features For Free

In a game-changing move, Google has revealed that all AI enhancements, now readily available across Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Meet, will no longer have associated costs for Workspace subscribers. However, to balance the scales, a monthly surge of $2 per user has been announced.

The shift inclusively opens up channels to Workspace AI aids such as email summarization, auto-notetaking, interactive sessions with authorized Gemini bots, and more. Earlier, these premium AI services commanded an extra $20 per user every month, over and above the $12 Workspace Business Standard plan. The newly quoted price for the standard plan stands at $14 per user per month.

The revised pricing structure is already effective for new clients. A transition for existing users will commence from March 17, 2025, exempting small business customers presently.

Subscribers who had previously availed Gemini for Workspace addon can continue usage without any subscription charges post-January 31.

Google’s latest move shows the platform’s strategic commitment to match pace with competitors, including Microsoft, who have already started integrating AI functions into their standard packages. Recently, Microsoft included its Copilot Pro AI features into its standard Microsoft 365 subscription.
