Google has expanded NotebookLM Plus, its premium AI-powered note-taking and research tool, to individual users. This expansion comes nearly two months after its initial launch for businesses on Google Cloud and Google Workspace.
With NotebookLM Plus, users can take advantage of increased capabilities and advanced features. These include expanded usage limits, such as 500 notebooks and 300 sources per notebook, as well as increased daily quotas for chat queries and audio generations. Individual subscribers can now access these enhanced features through the Google One AI Premium tier, priced at $20 per month. Additionally, students over 18 in the U.S. can benefit from a 50% discount on the plan, paying only $9.99 per month.
Since its introduction, NotebookLM has gained popularity, particularly with students. The Audio Overviews feature, which generates podcast-like audio summaries from uploaded content, has been a significant contributor to its success. Google plans to expand Audio Overviews to support languages other than English in the future.
Google is also exploring the integration of reasoning models into NotebookLM, which would enhance its thinking and reasoning abilities. Despite the expansion of NotebookLM Plus to paid subscribers, Google remains committed to providing a robust free version of the tool. The team will continue to enhance both the free and paid experiences to ensure that users receive maximum value.
While Google has not disclosed specific user or team size metrics for NotebookLM, data from Similarweb suggests a substantial user base. The AI assistant has recorded over 28 million visits in the past three months, with approximately 9 million visits in January alone.
