At the Samsung Unpacked 2025 event, Google broke the news about its upcoming improvements to its ‘Circle to Search’ feature, designed to further streamline user experience. Initially rolled out last year, ‘Circle to Search’ introduces a new paradigm in search methodology—rather than typing, users simply employ gestures like circling, scribbling, tapping, or highlighting.
Google’s latest move enhances AI Overviews’ functionality to encompass a range of visual results, including unique objects, trending images, and notable locations. The recently integrated ‘AI Overviews’ facilitated a more cohesive blend of text and image-based inquiries on ‘Circle to Search.’ With the new update, AI Overviews will be displayed even without extra text inputs or specific queries.
For instance, consider being in a museum, intrigued by a unique art piece. With ‘Circle to Search,’ a simple gesture gets you an AI-assisted digest of insightful information about the artwork, supplemented by links for additional exploration.
This recent release is accessible on all Android devices that support AI Overviews.
The upgrade has also simplified tasks on phones by teaching ‘Circle to Search’ to recognize numbers, email addresses, and URLs directly from the user’s screen. A long press on the home button, followed by a selection gesture on a phone number, email address, or URL, presents an action chip, allowing immediate interaction with the information.
The feature is currently being rolled out to all Android devices compatible with ‘Circle to Search.’
