FAA Instigates SpaceX and Blue Origin to Probe Recent Mega-Rocket Test Failures

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) mandates an inquiry into the recent rocket test mishaps from SpaceX and Blue Origin – owned by famous tycoons Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, respectively. The FAA has ordered each company to conduct a ‘mishap investigation’ to assess the malfunction’s cause and rectification. Rocket tests can only resume after the FAA’s approval.

The SpaceX’s Starship rocket exploded during its seventh test-flight, a result of an over-pressurisation on account of excess gas during its ascension. The explosion’s aftermath illuminated the night skies across the Turks and Caicos islands and required redirection of flights in the airspace due to low fuel levels. A conflicting account between FAA and SpaceX appeared about the location where the debris fell – the defined hazard area or outside it.

Meanwhile, Blue Origin’s rocket New Glenn took off from Cape Canaveral, Florida and suffered a blast upon its return on a drone ship while attempting to land. Both incidents reported no casualties or public property damage.
