EU’s Treatment of US Tech Giants Draws Trump’s Ire

President Trump expresses disappointment with the approach of EU regulators towards major US tech firms, including Google, Meta, and Apple.

In a recent session at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Trump openly criticized the EU’s ongoing investigations on these American tech powerhouses, labeling them effectively as “a tax regimen,” reports Bloomberg.

A focal point of Trump’s argument was Apple’s court case loss last year over a €13 billion tax bill in Ireland. Back in 2024, the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg ruled that Apple enjoyed illegal tax benefits in Ireland spanning from 1999 to 2014, resulting in a demand for back taxes.

According to Bloomberg, this tension between Trump’s Administration and the EU isn’t likely to simmer down and could become a key point of contention throughout his second term.

Currently, Google, Meta, and Apple are under scrutiny for possible breaches of the EU’s Digital Markets Act.
