Elon Musk’s X Settles Lawsuit with Trump for $10 Million

Elon Musk’s company, X, has reached an agreement to pay former President Donald Trump $10 million to resolve a lawsuit stemming from Twitter’s decision to ban him in 2021.

The lawsuit challenged Twitter’s decision to permanently suspend Trump’s account following the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol. Trump’s legal team reportedly considered withdrawing the lawsuit due to his improved relationship with Musk, who reinstated Trump’s Twitter account in 2022.

Despite their closer ties, Trump proceeded with the settlement. Musk and Trump have publicly supported each other, with Musk expressing financial support for Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign. This week, they held a joint press briefing at the White House.

The settlement follows a similar agreement between Meta and Trump, in which the social media giant agreed to pay $25 million to resolve a lawsuit related to Trump’s account suspension.
