Elon Musk’s Tesla Faces Dismissal in AI-Generated ‘Blade Runner’ Imagery Lawsuit

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and head of President Donald Trump’s DOGE organization, intends to dismiss a lawsuit alleging that Tesla used AI-generated images violating “Blade Runner” copyright at a press event.

In a filing submitted to the U.S. District Court Central District of California, Musk’s attorneys plan to dismiss Tesla and Musk from the case. “With prejudice” indicates that the case cannot be refiled.

Alcon Entertainment, the production company behind “Blade Runner 2049,” filed the lawsuit in October against Musk, Tesla, and Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD). Alcon claims Tesla deliberately infringed on its IP rights.

According to the complaint, Tesla and WBD requested permission to use “Blade Runner 2049” imagery to promote Tesla’s concept cars, but Alcon declined. Alcon alleges that Tesla then used an AI model to recreate the imagery.

Musk used the alleged AI-generated “Blade Runner” footage during the event, referencing the film. Alcon claims Tesla distributed promotional materials without its knowledge or consent.

The production company seeks to prohibit Tesla from using the disputed materials and unspecified damages. Alcon estimates Tesla could have paid between $500,000 and $10 million for a brand affiliation with “Blade Runner 2049” if it had approached Alcon directly. “The copyright infringements allowed Tesla to save this expenditure,” the complaint states.
