DeepSeek: Banned Tech by Countries and Agencies

DeepSeek, the Chinese AI company, faces backlash from regulators worldwide. Its viral AI models and chatbots have raised concerns about privacy, ethics, and security, leading to bans by various countries and organizations.

Corporations have joined the growing number of entities banning DeepSeek, citing concerns about potential data leakage to the Chinese government. DeepSeek’s privacy policy states that user data is stored in China, where intelligence officials can access it upon request.

Italy, Taiwan, the U.S. Congress, Texas, the U.S. Navy, the Pentagon, and NASA have all prohibited the use of DeepSeek technology on government-issued devices and networks.

Italy initiated the bans following an investigation by its privacy watchdog into DeepSeek’s data handling practices. Taiwan’s Ministry of Digital Affairs deemed the company a threat to national security, prohibiting its use in government agencies and critical infrastructure.

The U.S. House of Representatives has warned congressional offices against using DeepSeek, citing security concerns. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has issued an order banning the company’s software from state government devices.

The U.S. Navy, Pentagon, and NASA have also implemented bans due to potential security risks associated with DeepSeek’s Chinese origins. Despite the Pentagon’s ban, authorized personnel can still access DeepSeek through an approved platform that does not directly connect to Chinese servers.
