OpenAI, the developer behind the AI-driven chatbot, ChatGPT, has announced its initiative to revamp user interactions with a new User Interface (UI). Expected to initially roll out on ChatGPT.com and the Windows desktop app, this unique development will hit the mobile and MacOS desktop apps soon.
The updated UI allows users to input custom instructions for ChatGPT, personalizing aspects like the chatbot’s traits according to their preferences. Interacting with ChatGPT now can have a “chatty”, ”Encouraging”, or even the hip “Gen Z” vibe. However, this updated menu is not yet available for users from the EU, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland.
This upgrade unrelated to ChatGPT’s memory feature provides a means to include personal details and a wider range of conversational topics. Unfortunately, as of now, some users still can’t access these new preferences but we believe it’s merely a matter of time.
The feature enhancement appears to go deeper than aesthetics, still relying on the old “prompt engineering” concept which primed the AI with user-provided instructions. OpenAI continues to monitor custom instructions to ensure adherence to terms of use. Despite this, the goal remains to make ChatGPT more user-friendly.
This is indeed an interesting progression for ChatGPT as OpenAI gradually broadens its capabilities, catering to a user base that reaches over 300 million people every week.
