Reviewing CES 2025: Automotive Tech Takes Center Stage
CES 2025 saw a vacuum left by U.S. and European automakers, filled by Chinese brands like Geely-owned Zeekr and Xpeng. One of the major reveals was Toyota’s Woven City and its rocket exploration efforts. The event also showcased a significant presence of autonomous vehicle technology, signaling the future of transportation.
Spotlight on AI and Automated Driving Tech
Many exhibits focused attention on automated driving tech. Presence from autonomous vehicle companies like May Mobility, Waymo, and Zoox, who are developing or have launched robotaxi services, was notable. Automated tech extended its reach to agriculture with companies like John Deere and startups such as Polymath Robotics.
Supporting products for automated driving and advanced driving assistance systems were displayed by several companies, including Honda with its new operating system, Asimo. Comma.ai, an emerging startup has developed driver-assistance system to match Tesla’s Autopilot. Car-sharing service with a driverless twist, Vay also announced expansion.
Nvidia’s Existing and Emerging Partnerships
Nvidia continued its traditional CES trend of multiple partnerships in 2025. The stand out feature was the company’s persistence to furnish the complete spectrum of self-driving technology. An example is its collaboration with Toyota to equip future Toyota vehicles with automated driving tech via Nvidia’s Drive AGX Orin System-on-a-Chip (SoC) and DriveOS. Also, Nvidia’s work with Aurora Innovation and automotive supplier Continental for mass-producing Level 4 autonomous vehicles by 2027 was highlighted.
The Evolution of Screens
Certain companies presented innovative uses of screens. Supplier Valeo integrated a full screen at the base of windshields named Panovision. While, Hyundai Mobis turned an entire windshield into a transparent information display.
AI in Vehicles
An emerging trend was the invasion of Generative AI (genAI) into cars. BMW demonstrated a partnership with Amazon, using Amazon’s Alexa custom assistant for in-car user interface with large language model integration.
Qualcomm announced Snapdragon Digital Chassis improvements and Cockpit updates with generative AI. This technology aids real-time detection of distracted driving alongside personalized in-cabin experiences.
Micromobility Continues to Exist
The rise in the number of ebike and scooter brands at CES 2025 confirmed that micromobility is still alive, albeit evolved with more standalone offerings rather than shared service options. Brands like Vmax, Aima Technology Group, Segway, and Donut Lab made their presence felt with new lineups and tech integrations.
