Bumble Shuts Down Fruitz and Official to Focus on Core Businesses

Bumble is discontinuing Fruitz and Official, two previously acquired dating and relationship applications, to redirect its efforts towards its core platforms, Bumble and Badoo. This strategic decision aims to streamline operations and enhance focus on the company’s primary businesses.

The move aligns with the company’s reevaluation of its business strategy amid financial pressures within the dating app industry. This decision marks a departure from Bumble’s previous stance, expressed earlier in 2024, to pursue acquisitions for growth.

As part of this strategic shift, Whitney Wolfe Herd, Bumble’s founder, will resume her leadership role in March. She intends to prioritize safety measures, improve the platform’s underlying technology, and implement new features, including a “Discover” tab similar to Tinder, to enhance user experience.

Wolfe Herd acknowledges the recent disillusionment among dating app users and emphasizes the need to focus on confidence-building and improving safety. Bumble has reported a decline in overall revenue by 4.4%, with the Bumble app’s revenue decreasing by 3.8%. The company anticipates a further revenue decrease in the first quarter of 2025, reflecting a concerning trend.

Despite these challenges, Bumble remains optimistic about its future. The company plans to roll out several new features to enhance user experience and regain user confidence. These initiatives aim to restore the platform’s appeal and ensure its long-term success.
