Amazon Workers in North Carolina Reject Unionization Despite Claims of Intimidation

Workers at an Amazon warehouse in Garner, North Carolina, have voted against forming a union. The election results, announced by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), showed 74.7% of votes cast against unionization, while only 25.3% were in favor.

Carolina Amazonians United for Solidarity and Empowerment (CAUSE), the worker group seeking to form the union, expressed disappointment in the results. They alleged that Amazon’s “willingness to break the law” and “relentless and illegal efforts to intimidate” workers influenced the vote.

However, Amazon spokesperson Eileen Hards denied any wrongdoing, stating that the company is “glad that our team in Garner was able to have their voices heard.”

This vote follows successful unionization efforts at an Amazon warehouse in Staten Island in 2022 and at a Whole Foods location in Philadelphia earlier this year. Notably, Amazon is currently challenging the structure of the NLRB in a legal case alongside SpaceX.
