In a recent Fox interview, David Sacks – technology and cryptocurrency advisor to Trump, raised serious allegations against Chinese AI firm, DeepSeek. He claimed that a significant body of evidence suggests the AI company might have distilled knowledge from OpenAI’s AI models, positioning it akin to intellectual theft.
Although Sacks didn’t reveal his sources, he conjectured that DeepSeek could have used responses from these OpenAI models to aid in its own AI training. He further expected this to have rankled OpenAI.
DeepSeek, achieving viral status for its readily accessible and high-performing models along with free chat applications, is under heightened governmental scrutiny. Reports suggest the U.S.’ National Security Council, an advisory body to the president on foreign policy and national security, is appraising the implications surrounding DeepSeek’s apps, which recently topped at the Apple App Store over the weekend.
Moreover, the U.S. Navy banned the use of DeepSeek’s AI, raising potential security and ethical concerns.
