Exciting news for Artificial Intelligence (AI) aficionados! Several privileged users have reportedly had a taste of Grok 3, the next generational model in line after Grok 2 from Elon Musk’s renowned AI company, xAI.
During an unexpected preview, seasoned users including Alexey Shabanov were able to interact with Grok 3 via xAI’s chatbot application. The audience was thrilled to put the model to the test, grappling it with logical quandaries and programming-related enquiries.
Admirably, Grok 3 was quick on the uptake, demonstrating abilities such as solving complex riddles and composing HTML and JavaScript code requests generating a roulette wheel for a casino scenario. It wasn’t all seamless though. A few oversight mistakes occurred in the development of the roulette wheel coding, including a programming error.
Animatedly, Shabanov shared that he was able to expose Grok 3’s system prompt – the instructions dictating the model’s behaviour. Intriguingly, the prompt revealed specific information such as identifying Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States.
Grok 3 was anticipated to launch last year, based on Musk’s optimistic projections. However, the AI model hasn’t arrived as predicted. More recently, Musk has divulged that Grok 3 has completed the crucial pre-training phase, forecasting a potential release this February.
Muscling up this tech is xAI’s mammoth data centre located in Memphis, armed with approximately 100,000 GPUs. According to Musk, Grok 3 has been trained with 10 times the compute power compared to Grok 2.
With capabilities to review images and respond to questions, Grok services various features on xAI’s platform and also operates a standalone app. An upgrade on the horizon is the potential implementation of a “voice mode”, providing audio for the model’s responses.
Grok, launched two years ago by Musk as a robust, anti-“woke” AI chatbot, has shown to have its inclinations. It has been observed to lean politically left and be reluctant on certain boundaries. Grok 3 is expected to navigate this, aiming to position closer to neutral political standing. Further notable update includes the model’s enhanced understanding of legal subjects through the integration of court case data in its training.
