CoreWeave Expands with UK Data Centers
CoreWeave, the AI compute provider now valued at $19B, marks its international debut with two data centers in the UK. This major move follows the establishment of CoreWeave’s European headquarters in London and a substantial investment in the UK market.
Government Support for AI Growth
Alongside CoreWeave’s expansion, the UK government has rolled out an ambitious five-year plan to advance its AI computing capabilities, including enhancing private sector AI infrastructure. UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves, praised CoreWeave’s decision as a boost for the UK digital technology sector.
Operational Data Centers and Future Plans
The first CoreWeave data center in Crawley began functioning in October, while the London Docklands data center kicked off operations in December. Notably, both facilities leverage Nvidia’s Hopper GPUs, optimized for AI operations.
Focus Shift from Crypto to AI
Established in 2017, CoreWeave initially focused on crypto mining. However, recognizing the growing demand for AI compute resources, the company swiftly realigned its infrastructure. CoreWeave’s expansion news comes alongside plans for ten more data centers in 2025, including three in Europe.
