Amazon and Apple are facing challenges in implementing generative AI technology into their digital assistants, Alexa and Siri, respectively.
Amazon initially planned to launch its upgraded Alexa during an event in New York on February 26th. However, according to the Washington Post, the release has been postponed to March or later. This delay stems from the need to address technical issues related to the integration of generative AI.
Similarly, Apple’s revamp of Siri is experiencing engineering and software bugs, reports Bloomberg. Some new Siri features scheduled to be released in April may be pushed back to May or later.
The delays are partially attributed to the companies’ efforts to keep pace with the advancements in generative AI. Both Amazon and Apple recognize the need to stay competitive with newer AI voice assistants, such as OpenAI’s Advanced Voice Mode and Google’s Gemini Live. However, the deployment of these updates has proven more complex than anticipated, leading to the current delays.
