Despite changing the name of Twitter to X, Elon Musk himself has occasionally made the mistake of referring to the platform by its former moniker. In a recent post on X, Musk stated, “Twitter added far more features with fewer people.”
This slip of the tongue highlights the lingering association of the social media platform with its old name. Musk’s comment was made in response to an account that praised his advisory body on government efficiency, DOGE, for its efforts to reduce the federal workforce.
Musk had previously instructed federal employees to provide detailed work accomplishments by Monday or face potential job loss. However, a government official later clarified that these performance reports were optional. The account that Musk responded to had commented, “It worked for Twitter,” further emphasizing the association between X and its former identity.
This is not an isolated incident; Musk has referred to X as Twitter on multiple occasions, and it is likely that he will continue to do so. The name change has yet to fully disconnect the platform from its established identity as Twitter.
