Grok 3 propels xAI’s AI Chatbot to Record Usage

Elon Musk’s AI firm, xAI, has witnessed a meteoric rise in the adoption of its flagship model, Grok 3, since its launch last week. Grok 3 empowers the Grok chatbot apps on mobile devices, web platforms, and Musk’s social media platform, X.

Despite fierce competition in the AI chatbot domain, Grok 3 has rapidly gained traction. Industry experts estimate that downloads of the Grok mobile app surged by over 10-fold globally and in the United States during the week of its release. Additionally, daily active users for the U.S. app skyrocketed by 260%, while worldwide active users witnessed a 5-fold increase.

However, it is important to note that Grok’s expansion into various markets in Europe, Latin America, and Southeast Asia coincided with the release of Grok 3, potentially contributing to the app’s global growth.

Nevertheless, Grok’s web app also experienced significant growth independent of the mobile platforms. Data from Similarweb reveals that daily visits to Grok.com increased from approximately 189,000 to over 900,000 in the United States, while worldwide visits jumped from 627,000 to 4.5 million.

While these statistics are undoubtedly impressive, the question remains whether xAI can sustain this momentum and retain its user base over the long term. Recent controversies surrounding Grok 3, including its censorship of unfavorable mentions of President Donald Trump and Musk, may pose challenges to its ongoing success. xAI has attributed these incidents to rogue employees and has promptly addressed the issues.
