Federal Government Shuts Down Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Nationwide

The General Services Administration (GSA) is reportedly shutting down its network of electric vehicle (EV) chargers nationwide, according to The Verge. The agency manages buildings owned by the federal government and operates a network of hundreds of chargers with a total of 8,000 plugs. These chargers are used by government-owned vehicles and federal employees.

Federal workers are expected to receive guidance to shut down the chargers next week, with some regional offices having already taken their chargers offline. An internal email obtained by Colorado Public Radio indicates that charging stations at the Denver Federal Center will be closed as they are “not mission critical.”

This shutdown aligns with the Trump administration’s broader efforts to scale back government agencies and reduce support for renewable energy initiatives. The administration has previously cut funding for Tesla’s EV charging infrastructure program.

The GSA has been contacted for comment.
