Humane AI Pin Discontinued, HP Acquires Assets for $116 Million

Humane, the hardware startup behind the AI Pin, has announced the discontinuation of its product and the acquisition of its assets by HP for $116 million. The AI Pin, marketed as a smartphone replacement, failed to impress reviewers and customers, leading to a downturn in sales for Humane.

As a result, Humane has ceased sales of the AI Pin and will cease support on February 28, 2025. Affected customers have been advised to transfer important data from their devices. Those who purchased the AI Pin within the last 90 days are eligible for refunds.

HP’s acquisition includes Humane’s engineers, product managers, and some of its technology, including the CosmOS AI operating system. This acquisition is part of HP’s effort to establish an “AI innovation lab” called HP IQ, which aims to integrate AI into the company’s products and services.

Despite initial aspirations to secure a higher acquisition price, Humane’s financial struggles ultimately led to this deal with HP. The integration of Humane’s technology and talent into HP holds the potential to enhance the AI capabilities of HP’s devices, including personal computers and printers.
